With the advent of technology, the workplace culture constantly keeps changing. As it’s the beginning of the 2019, here is what’s next for workplaces this year:
The Year of Gen Z
2019 will undoubtedly see more of Gen Z members joining the workplace as according to a study, Gen Z will make up around 36% of the global workforce by 2020. What businesses need to remember is that Millennials and Generation Z’s are not big fans of the archaic practices of the modern day workplace so they would have to adapt new strategies in order to attract and retain young talent.
Contractor Agreements
Very similar to the idea of remote work is the concept of subcontractor agreements. What this means is that services are required and stated in the form of a mutual contract for a dedicated agreed period of time. The workplace is also plagued with finding the best of the best and suffers if they are constantly asked to train “the new guy”; so why not reach externally for your the services of another entity? Adding to that, subcontractors are typically asked to file for their own taxes which equates to less paperwork for the employer/managing director/CEO.
Less Human Interaction
The surge of development of artificial intelligence has caused some roles to become redundant as many of the operations can now be led by fast, smart programmable software. This is due in part to computers’ abilities to control multiple inputs and output parameters, perform many meticulous calculations at speeds that the average employee may find difficult to provide and smart dynamic actions based on previous information.
Bots have been known to be prevalent in previous years but these days they have evolved from simply spamming message timelines. They are now used unobtrusively in various message support systems on websites, responding to user queries with very realistic but programmable responses to conditional dynamic requests.
An Increased Use of Serviced Offices
The overheads to run a business are arguably a major concern for managers and executive staff alike. Some of these overheads include the net costs of electricity, water usage and security. It would be no surprise that many potential and existing workplaces will switch to serviced offices as they’re affordable and provide businesses with utmost flexibility.
